Dragons, or draganians as they are called in the language of the Protectors, were the first creatures to grace the earth. Haydrien lent his power and Ia created them from the volcano's lava. She made them, in their own way, intelligent. With no thought of the future, the dragons live in the here and now. That aspect made some of them rashly choose to serve the humans, when the mortals were created some years later. This however turned out for the best.
Dragons are complex creatures. They are impressionable and brusque. They learned, only a few years after they were created, how to bend vlin to their use. This allowed them to touch the minds of other creatures, although they declined to encroach on the minds of fellow dragons without invitation, for dragons have-above all else-a staunch sense of honor and decency.
When Ia created Man and some of the dragons choose to serve the fledgling race, they learned the power of their abilities. The dragons learned to touch the minds of their human partners and none other. They also learned that with their affectionate closeness came repercussions. Emotions, images, and dreams rode the channel open between human and beast. Although they learned to lessen this to an extent, the more profound and extreme emotions passed through. The humans also realized the ability of the dragons to breath fire. It was through the help of a Sorcerer, though, that the ability was harnessed.
Although the dragons have helped the Dragonchildren win many wars, the dragons are not so easily pulled into these battles. A dragon has its own mechanism for thinking and will not fight for a cause less than worthy...and no amount of pushing will change their minds. Dragons will not fight other dragons. This has been the reason for many avoided civil wars in Lendin. The greatest asset of the Lendin army is its dragons, whether it be royal dragons or the dragons of disgruntled knights and nobles. They will not fight one another, thus a war would be hard fought. A dragon will also not fight a war that he feels is foolish. And a dragons reasoning is much different than a humans. A dragon feels fighting over inanimate objects, for things not needed, and for money is foolish. They will not involve themselves in those things. Therefore, the kings of Lendin have been involved in very few wars that were not worth fighting.
When about to lay her Horde of eggs a female usually finds a warm, high, place. This usually means a cave on a high cliff face (there is a common Hatchery in Dishil where most of the dragons go to lay their Horde). The size of a Horde generally depends on the age of the dragon. A young dragon will lay approximately twelve eggs; this is the usual number for a very old dragon, also. A female dragon, in her prime can lay a Horde as big as thirty-six eggs-which is the norm. The largest Horde every recorded was lain by Setakia, the dragon belonging to Harianna. She lay a total of forty-seven eggs; which has never been rivaled. This happened the year Harianna became Queen, after her brother's death ( Ya'rokuda Era, in the Second Age).
Dragon's blood is the most lethal poison known to man.
The dragons are the most powerful beasts in Lartheia. Immune to sorcery and capable of untold feats, the dragons are the backbone and inspiration of the Dragonchilden.
