The Covenant Chronicles

 The Inhabitants of Lartheia
Back to Full Blog

There are numerous persons in my story. This is here to help you keep them straight. Birth dates are in parenthesis. Also included are important terms and titles, some may seem familiar, but may mean something different in Lartheia. I must note that in Lartheia their months do not go January, February, etc. they have different names and are as follows:

January--Milidiven
February--Aunden
March--Glantrian
April--Luvingian
May--Ymamlin
June--Gwilden
July--Viven
August--T'slestin
September--Filliant
October--Allian
November--Elafian
December--Silitia

For your further information, Lartheia is currently(at the time of the story) in the year 1000, a few months before the Years End feast, but most of the story takes place in the year 1001 in the Kipchai Era, of the Fifth Age; this will help you figure out approximate ages.

~Kai Wynlia Harieen, Lady(Silitia 30, 983; Kipchai Era, Fifth Age)- Kai is the adopted daughter of the King of Teldin, Ruegar Harieen. She came into Ruegar's possession at the age of four, coming to him through the Elves-they guard her whereabouts before then closely. She was taken to live on Luardian Island at Luardian Fort, a fortress situated at the northern most point on the island. The Duke of Luardian housed and protected Kai by Ruegar's command. Taking the task very seriously, the Duke of Luardian gave Kai her own tower and forbade her from every setting foot outside. Consequently, Kai is extremely desensitized. Her only friends are the young shipwrecked explorer and Lady Tyeda. Although her routine is strict, Kai has set foot outside. A couple times a year she takes a leisurely stroll, and on New Years Eve she attends the feast. In the months leading up to her seventeenth birthday, the King of Teldin agreed with Raid (the late Duke of Luardian's son) to an engagement between himself and Kai. Being without heirs, the King of Teldin named Kai's children as his successors. Naturally, the other five Duke's protested, upset that the title of Regent was passing to Raid. It was planned that on New Years Eve, Kai's seventeenth birthday, she would be married to Raid. He would be thirteen years her senior.

But Kai's destiny lays far beyond Luardian Island...

~Migele Lucian Kuel'Tusa, Wind Guardian(Aunden 24, 906; Kipchai Era, Fifth Age)-Even though he is only a half-breed, the son of a Sorceress mother, Mariana, and a mortal father, Bastian, Migele is extremely powerful. Born into a poor existence, Migele barely knew his mother. She died of a fever, unable to heal herself, for fear of what the highly suspicious villagers would do to her growing child. Bastian tried his best to keep his son's powers a secret, but was ultimately unsuccessful. When Migele was eight, the people of his village cast him out and attempted to stone him. He was saved from death, though, by a young woman, who was traveling through Teldin. The young woman, defended Migele against the villagers, revealing in herself the powers of a Sorceress. The woman was Wolfentree, a half-breed also; the daughter of a Sorcerer and a Druid. Taken under her wing, Migele moved to Ussim, where he grew up learning not only the ways of a Sorcerer, but also a warrior. At the age of twenty Migele stopped aging. When he turned thirty-one, Migele met Zangel. He was a young Sorcerer like himself, traveling to southern Ussim to beg an audience with the Sage Mother, Kuralina. Leaving Wolfentree's home, Migele accompanied Zangel. They formed a close bond, although Zangel would not disclose the reasons for his journey to see the leader of the Orthodox Temple. When they reached southern Ussim, Migele became acquainted with a Sorceress, Sabatue. A delicately small girl, she was more than five times his senior. She took them to the Grand Temple. Migele was admitted into the presence of the Sisterhood, the ruling body of the Grand Temple, along with Zangel. Finally he realized the reason for the journey. The Wind Guard, a deadly assassin group which the Orthodox Temple created many centuries ago, was in need of new recruits. Four positions were being filled; Zangel had hopes of being one of them. As it turned out, Sabatue was the leader of the Wind Guard. Migele became inclined to try his luck at becoming a Wind Guardian. After ten years of grueling, intense training both Migele and Zangel became Wind Guardians. At about this time Migele made his intentions toward Sabatue known and they were married within the year. He was forty-two years old, young for a Sorcerer. When he was sixty Sabatue gave birth to a son, Nekel. Migele and Sabatue were adamant that he follow in their footsteps and serve the Orthodox Temple by becoming a warrior. When Nekel was six he began his training. At this time a war was raging between the Desert People, who were mostly refugees, and the Lendin Empire, which controlled most of the desert. The war was simply known as the Revolution. Teldin and Kargor got involved, both on Lendin's side; they felt that no refugee could raise a hand to a Lartheian. The Orthodox Temple attempted to end the war by sending the Wind Guard to assassinate generals on both sides. During one such attempt, Migele was sent to a place called The House of Niss, which is not only the shrine to her within the Grand Temple, but also the valley which she resided in during the creation situated in L'Mina. Migele was sent to the shrine, supposedly to stop a secret meeting, when he arrived he found nothing. Meanwhile, the rest of the Wind Guard got word that he was in trouble and raced to the valley where they uncovered a horrible truth. Sensing something amiss, Migele tracked down his brethren, only to find them massacred, even Sabatue. Zangel was the only one left alive, and it became apparent why. He had made a deal with Sievan to eradicate the Wind Guard, a major thorn in the Demon King's side. Zangel, Migele's closest friend, had betrayed him. To further wound his old friend Zangel had even murdered Migele's son, Nekel. Migele, completely in shock, could do nothing, and Zangel escaped. Migele quickly fell into a catatonic state, and was revived many years later(in 983)only after meeting the newborn heir of Niss, Evindell...

~Kahlin Sakale Ravedin, Duke of Nivian(T'slestin 9, 979; Kipchai Era, Fifth Age)-Much is not known of Kahlin. The young heir of Nivian was born into hostile conditions. His father was murdered in secret by his Uncle-his father's brother-before he was even born. His Uncle, Olwin Dooltar Ravedin, was eager to acquire the dukedom, not caring who got in his way. Kahlin's mother died during childbirth, leaving Kahlin all alone with his ruthless Uncle. Olwin in an attempt to get rid of the boy, without touching him-suspicion was already growing against him-named him Kahlin (the name Kahlin is a cursed one. The few children named after the doomed Protector have died by the age of three). However, Olwin's attempts failed and Kahlin killed his Uncle when he turned twelve. Being such a young age, Kahlin had to be protected. A close friend of his father took up this job, Luidin Balen Gandorien. Under Luidin's guidence Kahlin grew from an indifferent young boy, into a cold and ruthless young man; though this was not Luidin's intention. After Kahlin turned nineteen he set out for his neighboring dukedom, Duldare, and invaded. The whole campaign took less than a year and a half. At it's end Kahlin was halted by the walls of the capital, Duldare. He waited; a long siege ensued. At it's end Kahlin stole into the palace with a handful of men and took the city from the inside. Kahlin murdered Duke Denel's infant son without provocation. Locking the old duke in the seized castle, Kahlin took his other child, a daughter, with him. They returned to Nivian, Claya-the daughter-as collateral. Kahlin has never met Kai, but tales of her beauty have intrigued him...

~Mithias Iroi Brian Hidine, Prince(Filliant 21, 980; Kipchai Era, Fifth Age)-Although he is the firstborn son of Mahew Phelix Ue Hidine, Mithias is not the firstborn child of the King of Lendin. Mithias was born in the fall of 980, almost one month before his elder sisters fourth birthday. However, she never made it to her birthday. On Allian 23, 980 Mivena Diana Tre Hidine II was murdered while sleeping next to her brother's cradle. A part of Mahew has always blamed Mithias for surviving, while his daughter was murdered. Because of this animosity Mithias has never had a good relationship with his father. His mother is a different story. Jadelin Lyn Eather Hidine loves her son the most of all her children. After Mivena's death, Jadelin bore elevan more children, and adopted one. Mithias is the eldest of twelve children, and the adopted one, Jivlin. Mithias has devoted much of his time to becoming a great warrior, and adept scholar. He has a excellent tactical mind, and the generals have already sworn loyalty-before he has even acquired the throne. In the summer of 998 a young desert man named Kuhn attempted to insight his people against the Hidine-the desert is a part of the Lendin Empire; the Hidine's control over half of it, excluding Ussim. Kuhn was assasinated, though, for his part in the torture of a young Priestess. However, his death stirred resentments. A large force was mustered, and the desert people, without the blessings of their king, attempted to fight Lendin. Mithias immediately marched for the border with one general, Liam Vawn, in tow. Mithias' forces counted over fifteen hundred, while Liam commanded a force of over six thousand men. Mithias vowed to crush the revolt, promising to be home in the winter. Although he visited briefly, Mithias has not returned home. Over two years later Jadelin still waits for his homecoming...

~Wolfentree Lisia Dalinor, Sorceress of Ussim(Viven 3, 1102; Victia Era, Fourth Age)-
